Peter O'Donnell
Painter of animals and people in their mystical habitats. Born in London in 1965, his inspiration was his childhood many visits to London Zoo and Natural History Museum. Now peter has combined these visions with the outstanding beauty of the South Hams, in his partially abstract colourful backgrounds Peter has been a professional artist since the early 1990's when he established himself as a maker children's books, writing and illustrating books to a UK and international market. He was short listed for the prestigious 'Mother Goose' Award for his first book 'The Moonlit Journey' in 1990. He originally studied fine art at Maidstone College of Art and later Kingston University to gain his Masters in Art. Peter has in recent years focused on painting and printmaking, exhibiting his work in Bristol galleries where he was formerly living. Peter works in oil and acrylic paint, he is also a skilled printmaker using woodblock to make iconic images. He acknowledges that his creative themes are the mix of memory and response to his beautiful coastal environment, " I virtually grew up in London Zoo and also the Natural History Museum, which was another free afternoon out. The animals have somehow lodged themselves in my subconscious and emerge through my art infused with the light and colours of the South Hams". |
